A 76-year-old woman stands accused of fatally stabbing her 83-year-old husband, who had been diagnosed with dementia, following a dispute. The trial, which began Friday at the Cologne Regional Court, presents starkly different accounts of the incident from the prosecution and the defense.

The prosecution contends that the couple's life together had been increasingly defined by the husband's dementia in recent years, leading to frequent arguments. They allege that the accused consistently behaved loudly and aggressively towards her husband, who largely remained passive. Witnesses reportedly heard the woman shout "I'll stab you right now!" twice before she allegedly grabbed a "sharp-edged object" and stabbed her husband in the chest. He died at the scene despite resuscitation efforts.
