Tributes laid at site of fatal Vilnius BMW crash that killed two young people

Mourners are leaving candles, flowers, and teddy bears at the site of a tragic BMW accident in Vilnius where two young people lost their lives. The crash occurred early Saturday morning around 4:20 AM on Žirmūnų Street. According to the Police Department, the BMW 530e, driven by a 19-year-old woman, collided with a lamppost and caught fire after the impact. The 18-year-old female passenger and a 20-year-old male passenger died at the scene. The driver sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital. Police reported that she had a blood alcohol content of 0.58 permille. An investigation is underway to determine all circumstances of the accident, including whether the vehicle was involved in street racing prior to the crash. A police representative stated that it is too early to draw conclusions and more details will emerge as the driver is interviewed and other procedural actions are completed.
