Triple jumper Shanieka Ricketts welcomes baby girl

Jamaica's Olympic silver medalist in the triple jump, Shanieka Ricketts, has welcomed her first child, a baby girl named Shania Lee Ricketts. The athlete shared the joyous news on Saturday via an Instagram post, accompanied by photos of the infant.

"God has been faithful, and we are overwhelmed with gratitude that our bundle of joy is finally here! Shania Lee Ricketts came into our world and made us the happiest parents!" Ricketts expressed in her announcement. She and her husband, Kerrylee Ricketts, posed with their newborn daughter. The couple had revealed they were expecting on their 10th anniversary several weeks prior.

Ricketts, a decorated athlete, also holds two silver medals from the World Championships in the triple jump. Her achievements were further recognized when she was named the RJR/Gleaner Sports Foundation National Sportswoman of the Year in 2024.

The announcement comes amidst other news from Jamaica, including the death of actor Michael Wright, Jamaica's upcoming hosting of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association conference, and a protest in Trelawny. However, Ricketts' personal milestone remains a highlight.
