Troops rescue 25 kidnapped victims in Katsina and Zamfara

Nigerian troops rescued 25 kidnapped people during separate operations in Katsina and Zamfara states, according to the military.

In Katsina, troops from Sector 1 of Operation Fansan Yamma encountered terrorists during a night patrol near Kwanar Kura in Sabuwa Local Government Area. The militants fled into surrounding bushes after the troops engaged them with what the military described as superior firepower. Soldiers pursued them along their escape routes and rescued two people who had been abducted on the Dandume-Damari Road. They also recovered two motorcycles.

In Zamfara, troops from Sector 2 rescued 23 civilians during a fighting patrol on the outskirts of Wuya town in Anka Local Government Area. The group consisted of three men and 20 women. An initial debriefing indicated that they had been abducted in Gummi Local Government Area and held for about three weeks.

The victims were evacuated for medical attention and further debriefing. Lieutenant-Colonel Aliyu Danja, the operation’s military information officer, said the missions reflected the troops’ commitment to protecting lives, disrupting terrorist activity and rescuing people held in captivity across the joint operations area.
