Troops rescue abducted soldier and civilian in Zamfara

Troops operating in Zamfara State have successfully rescued a kidnapped soldier and a civilian during a targeted patrol. The operation, conducted by Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force North West under Operation Fansan Yamma, aimed to dismantle a terrorist enclave in the Gwashi area.

The rescued soldier has been identified as Lance Corporal Basiru Labbo, who was abducted on July 22, 2026, while traveling along the Zuru-Anka Road. The civilian victim is Lauwali Dan Ada, a resident of Kasahola Village in the Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Following their rescue, both individuals were safely evacuated to the troops' location. They subsequently underwent debriefing, medical evaluations, and other necessary administrative procedures to ensure their well-being and reintegrate them.

Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the Media Information Officer for Operation Fansan Yamma, stated that the operation remains committed to conducting sustained offensive actions and rescue missions. These efforts are crucial for protecting lives and restoring security across the North-West region of Nigeria.
