Tropical Storm Nangka Forms, No Impact Expected on Taiwan

A new tropical storm, named Nangka, has formed in the Pacific Ocean. The storm, which developed from a tropical depression located south of Iwo Jima, is currently moving northeastward. According to Taiwan's Central Weather Administration, Nangka is not expected to impact the island's weather conditions.

Nangka is the 17th tropical storm of the season, with its center located at latitude 22.1 degrees North and longitude 142.0 degrees East. It is moving at a speed of 34 kilometers per hour towards the east-northeast. The storm has a central pressure of 992 hectopascals and maximum sustained winds of 18 meters per second, with gusts up to 25 meters per second. Its wind field extends to a radius of 80 kilometers.

Currently, there are two active typhoons in the Pacific: Nangka and Bavi. Typhoon Bavi remains a tropical storm, with its center at latitude 29.4 degrees North and longitude 162.0 degrees East, moving northeast at 22 kilometers per hour. Its central pressure is 995 hectopascals, with maximum sustained winds of 18 meters per second and gusts up to 25 meters per second. Its wind field extends to a radius of 100 kilometers. Neither Bavi nor Nangka are projected to affect Taiwan.

Meanwhile, Typhoon Maysak, which made landfall in Japan yesterday, weakened into a tropical depression (TD16) early this morning.
