Truck Collides with Pedestrian Bridge in South Jakarta, Driver Questioned

Police are investigating a truck driver who crashed into a pedestrian bridge (JPO) on Jalan Kapten Tendean in South Jakarta. The incident occurred around 1:28 AM on Tuesday, July 14.

The driver is currently being questioned at the police station. We have already documented the truck stuck at 1 AM.

Authorities are currently questioning the driver of the truck, which was transporting heavy equipment, including what appeared to be an excavator. The preliminary investigation suggests the driver may not have accurately assessed the height of the bridge in relation to the load being carried. The truck remains stuck under the damaged bridge.

It's still under investigation. Perhaps the driver didn't know the height of the JPO, and the vehicle was carrying an excavator, like a drilling tool.

The collision caused severe damage to the JPO and resulted in extensive traffic jams, stretching from Warung Buncit to the Kuningan intersection. The Jakarta Metropolitan Police have coordinated with the Bina Marga agency for the truck's evacuation and are managing traffic flow in the affected area.

Because it involves a JPO, we have to bring in a crane. It's still congested, so it can't be evacuated yet. The focus is on traffic management and waiting for the relevant agencies.

Motorists are advised to avoid Jalan Kapten P Tendean towards Blok M and use alternative routes such as Jalan HR Rasuna Said, Jalan Gatot Subroto, Jalan Kemang Raya, and Jalan Antasari. The BPBD DKI Jakarta reported that the driver was allegedly distracted by their mobile phone at the time of the incident.
