Truck Fire Shuts Down A14 Highway; Dresden-Bound Lanes Remain Closed

A burning truck trailer caused a complete closure of the A14 highway in the direction of Dresden on Wednesday, leading to significant traffic delays. The trailer, loaded with paper rolls, was completely destroyed in the blaze near Plötzkau in the Salzlandkreis region.

The 34-year-old driver noticed smoke emanating from his vehicle while traveling towards Dresden. He managed to pull over to the shoulder and detach the tractor unit from the trailer just before it became engulfed in flames. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.

Emergency services, including several volunteer fire departments, worked to bring the fire under control. Recovery operations are expected to continue until 10 p.m., with the road remaining closed to traffic heading towards Dresden. The direction of travel towards Schwerin, which had also been temporarily affected by heavy smoke, has since reopened.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Authorities estimate the property damage to be in the low five figures. The incident highlights the risks associated with transporting goods on major highways and the rapid response required from emergency services.
