Truck veers off road while descending Galenkui Hill, 2 injured

A cargo truck reportedly speeding down Galenkui Hill at Ho Bankoe in Ghana's Volta region veered off the road on Saturday, crashing into a shop at the Ho Civic Centre. The incident left two individuals severely injured.

The injured, a man and a woman whose identities have not yet been released, were transported to the hospital for treatment. Witnesses at the scene suggested that the truck's brakes may have failed, contributing to the accident. This area has a history of similar incidents; approximately one and a half years prior, a collision on the same hill involving a mini-bus and a heavy-duty truck resulted in 10 fatalities.

Volta Regional Minister James Gunu was among those who visited the scene to gather firsthand accounts from eyewitnesses. The driver of the truck, identified by its license plate GE 5963 -23, was not present when authorities arrived. Two men traveling in a tricycle taxi that was struck by the truck escaped unharmed.

Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
