Trukai Fun Run 2026 Kicks Off to Support Team PNG for Commonwealth Games

Thousands are gathering at Sir Hubert Murray Stadium for the Trukai Fun Run 2026, an event that officially kicks off at 6 a.m. This run is one of Papua New Guinea's largest fundraising initiatives, dedicated to supporting Team PNG's journey to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Volunteers and participants began arriving as early as 4 a.m., with the atmosphere energized by DJ SHLD and welcoming remarks from PNGFM hosts. Speeches from Jefery Lovongo, Corporate Affairs Manager for Trukai Industries, and Elaine Lorive, Treasurer of the PNG Olympic Committee, set the stage for the day.

Lovongo emphasized the event's core message: "about coming together as one, teamwork, to support our athletes as they compete for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow." Lorive highlighted the nationwide scope, noting that Fun Runs are happening concurrently in Goroka, Kokopo, Kundiawa, Lae, Madang, and Mt Hagen, underscoring the fundraiser's national reach.

The Fun Run, concluding at 8:45 a.m. with an official program ending at 9 a.m., is made possible by key sponsors and partners. Participants are expected to rally behind the slogan “I Support Team PNG,” chanting “Go Team PNG!” as they hit the track, showcasing their national pride.
