Trump Accuses Iran of Violating Ceasefire with Drone Attack on Ship

U.S. President Donald Trump accused Iran of a "foolish violation" of a ceasefire agreement, alleging that Iranian forces launched at least four one-way attack drones toward ships in the Strait of Hormuz. Trump stated on Truth Social that one drone hit the upper deck of a cargo ship, causing damage but allowing it to continue its journey.

Trump added that U.S. forces intercepted the remaining three drones before they could reach their targets. The accusations come amid heightened tensions in the vital global shipping route, following recent incidents involving commercial vessels.

Earlier reports, citing an unnamed Iranian official and The New York Times, suggested Iran launched drone attacks on civilian vessels after Oman introduced an alternative toll-free shipping route. Tehran reportedly viewed Oman's initiative as a direct challenge to its authority over the Strait of Hormuz, a critical energy transit corridor. Iranian leaders allegedly concluded that this alternative route weakened their leverage over international shipping, prompting a retaliatory response against civilian vessels.

Iran has not yet issued a public response to Trump's allegations, and the claims themselves have not been independently verified. The U.S. and several Gulf countries advocate for unrestricted, toll-free navigation through the strait under international law, while Iran insists that shipping arrangements must be coordinated with Tehran.
