The State Department stated the training aims to equip officers to identify and reject applicants deemed likely to become dependent on U.S. social welfare programs. This initiative is part of an extensive campaign to tighten immigration controls, which includes efforts to deport undocumented immigrants and restrict access to visas and green cards.
