Trump Administration Proposes NDAs for Federal Employees, Seeks Input on China Tariffs

The Trump administration has proposed a new rule that would require federal employees to sign non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) to prevent the sharing of classified information with the press. The draft, released by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, would allow individual agencies to determine whether to make these NDAs mandatory. This move is part of a broader effort by the administration to control the flow of information from government employees and to curb leaks to the media.

Under the proposed regulation, both current and former federal employees could face civil and criminal penalties if they violate the terms of an NDA. Furthermore, the U.S. government would reserve the right to seize any income earned by employees from disclosing information that breaches such agreements. This initiative follows previous actions by the administration, including lawsuits against media organizations and the requirement for some Defense Department officials to sign NDAs.

In parallel, the U.S. Trade Representative's office announced that the government will seek public input on which Chinese goods should receive lower tariffs. This initiative stems from a recent agreement between Washington and Beijing to establish a joint "Trade Council." The council aims to identify approximately $30 billion worth of non-strategic goods on which tariffs could be reduced or eliminated.
