Trump Announces Iran Deal to End War, Reopen Strait of Hormuz

President Donald Trump declared that a deal with Iran to end the war and immediately reopen the Strait of Hormuz is set to be signed. He announced on his social media platform, Truth Social, that "The agreement will be signed tomorrow, and immediately after its signing, the Strait of Hormuz will be OPEN FOR ALL." This declaration comes after Pakistan, acting as a mediator, indicated that the agreement could be finalized within 24 hours. However, Iran's Foreign Ministry had previously downplayed the possibility of a Sunday signing, while leaving the door open for a deal in the coming days. Trump asserted that Iran has renounced its nuclear ambitions, stating, "They no longer want a nuclear weapon, nor will they have one, not through purchase, development, or any other form of acquisition." He further claimed the agreement involves no "money exchange" with Iran and will allow the U.S. to acquire Iranian enriched uranium for its destruction. Trump expressed hope for long-term collaboration with Iran and the wider Middle East, but also issued a threat of a "definitive alternative" should the process falter, implying a potential military response. Discrepancies exist regarding the terms, with Tehran suggesting the deal would unfreeze Iranian assets, a claim Washington denies, and end hostilities, including Israeli actions in Lebanon.
