Trump-backed Reflecting Pool renovation complete, water returns to D.C. landmark

The Reflecting Pool in Washington D.C. is once again filled with water following a renovation project championed by former President Donald Trump. The work, described as one of Trump's signature projects to make the capital "safe and beautiful again," included repainting the pool's bottom in a blue inspired by the American flag and repairing its plumbing system.

The renovation cost approximately $13.1 million, significantly exceeding the initial estimate of around $1.8 million, according to The New York Times. Trump had actively promoted the pool's refurbishment, reportedly considering it dirty. He was even seen inspecting the drained pool area in his official vehicle last month.

This project is part of a broader series of initiatives by the former real estate magnate to leave his mark on the capital. Other proposed projects include the construction of a large ballroom at the White House and a triumphal arch to commemorate the 250th anniversary of American independence.

The Reflecting Pool, a rectangular body of water over 600 meters long, is situated at the base of the Lincoln Memorial. It famously reflects the Washington Monument and has been the site of historical events, including Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech in 1963. It also featured in the iconic 1994 film "Forrest Gump."
