Trump calls Brazil's Lula 'very volatile,' says he 'couldn't care less'

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has characterized Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva as "very volatile" and expressed indifference towards him.

In an interview with Axios, Trump commented on Lula's presence at the G7 summit, stating, "I watched Brazil and the president, who is a person I know a little bit. He is a very volatile person." When pressed further, Trump added, "It's not about being a fan, I don't think about him. I couldn't care less. But he is a very different person now. Very volatile."

This follows Trump's earlier assertion that Brazil has become "politically dangerous." During the G7 meeting, he also appeared to confuse members of the Bolsonaro family, mistakenly stating that "Bolsonaro Jr." had been arrested or was facing arrest due to his strong poll numbers. This comment came amid reports of Eduardo Bolsonaro's conviction.

In response to Trump's remarks, Lula suggested that the former U.S. president could learn from Brazil's electoral process. "If there is someone who has to learn from civilized elections in Brazil, it is my friend Trump. Next time, I will bring the electronic voting machine to show him how it works," Lula stated. The Brazilian president has consistently defended the country's electoral system against claims of insecurity.
