President Donald Trump announced that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has responded to his overtures for dialogue, though the U.S. president offered no details regarding the specifics or timing of Kim's reaction. Trump's remarks came after he had previously indicated a desire to engage in talks with Kim.

When questioned by reporters about why Kim Jong Un had not responded to dialogue requests, Trump countered, "How do you know he hasn't responded?" After a pause, he confirmed, "Yes, he has."

This exchange occurred a day after Trump revealed his instruction to reduce joint military exercises between the United States and South Korea. He had previously expressed his wish for dialogue with Kim multiple times. On his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump also recently mentioned his "very good relationship" with Kim Jong Un. He justified the reduction in military drills by citing their high cost, largely borne by the U.S., and argued that the exercises send an "inappropriate and hostile signal" to North Korea.
