Trump Considers Renaming Lake Ontario to 'Lake America'

Former U.S. President Donald Trump is reportedly considering a significant name change for one of the Great Lakes, proposing to rename Lake Ontario to "Lake America." This potential alteration comes after a similar move to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the "Gulf of America."

Trump announced the consideration on his social media platform, Truth Social, stating, "The United States is seriously considering changing the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America, as we do not expect to do much business with Ontario anymore." He thanked his audience for their attention to the matter.

Lake Ontario, situated on the U.S.-Canada border, is the smallest of the five Great Lakes. Its name is believed to derive from an Iroquois word meaning "beautiful lake." The proposal arises amid escalating trade and diplomatic tensions between the U.S. and Canada, marked by significant tariff impositions by the Trump administration on Canadian goods.
