Trump convenes meeting for final decision on Iran ceasefire extension

President Donald Trump announced he would convene a meeting at the White House Situation Room to make a final decision on extending a potential 60-day ceasefire with Iran. U.S. media had previously reported that an agreement with Iran was awaiting Trump's final approval, suggesting that an announcement on extending the ceasefire memorandum of understanding could be imminent.

During a post on Truth Social, Trump stipulated conditions for the agreement. He asserted that Iran must commit to never possessing nuclear weapons or bombs. Furthermore, he demanded the immediate and unrestricted opening of the Strait of Hormuz for two-way navigation without tolls. Trump also stated that all mines would be removed, noting that many had already been cleared by U.S. naval assets.

Trump indicated that ships currently restricted in the strait due to the U.S.'s naval blockade could begin a 'return home' procedure. Regarding Iran's nuclear material, he stated that "nuclear dust" buried in a mountain region, destroyed by a U.S. B-2 bomber 11 months prior, would be retrieved and destroyed by the U.S. in coordination with Iran and the IAEA. He added that no money would change hands until further notice.
