Trump declares Iran deal invalid after escalating U.S.-Iran attacks

President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that a Memorandum of Understanding with Iran is "no longer valid," signaling a potential collapse of the negotiated agreement between Washington and Tehran. This statement comes amid a new military escalation in the Middle East, involving reciprocal attacks between the United States and Iran.

Speaking at the NATO summit in Ankara, Trump told reporters, "From my perspective, the deal is over. It's a waste of time to negotiate with them." He later added that negotiations might continue if U.S. negotiators believe there is a prospect for dialogue.

Trump's remarks followed Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announcement of missile and drone attacks targeting U.S. military objectives in Bahrain and Kuwait. The Iranian military also claimed to have struck an air base in Bahrain used by U.S. forces. While the full extent of damages remains unconfirmed by authorities, Washington confirmed airstrikes on targets in southern Iran and reinstated sanctions on Iranian oil exports.

An American official stated these measures were a response to recent attacks on commercial vessels near the Strait of Hormuz. The escalating tensions have led to an increase in global oil prices. Trump also criticized Iran's leadership, accusing Tehran of violating a ceasefire with the attacks on commercial ships, asserting that diplomacy is no longer effective and the U.S. must prioritize its own interests.
