Trump demands Iran pay compensation for those killed and wounded

Trump's remarks, made on social media, highlighted specific incidents. He referenced the October 2000 bombing of the USS Cole, a U.S. Navy destroyer attacked in a Yemeni port, which killed 17 sailors and wounded over three dozen others. The FBI attributed this attack to al-Qaeda. Additionally, Trump mentioned the thousands of people affected by Iran's worst domestic unrest since the 1979 revolution, referring to recent anti-government protests where Iranian authorities have been accused of cracking down on opponents.

The president's demand for compensation from Iran was made in the context of Iran nearing a deal with Oman to define new shipping lanes through the Strait of Hormuz.
