Trump freezes Israeli attacks on Lebanon after talks with Netanyahu; Iran issues warning

President Donald Trump announced on Monday that planned Israeli attacks on Beirut had been frozen following a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and indirect communications with Hezbollah. Trump stated on his social media platform, Truth Social, that troops en route to Beirut were ordered to turn back.

"I just had a very productive conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu. There will be no troops moving towards Beirut, and the troops that were previously on their way there have been ordered to return," Trump said, according to Aljazeera. He added that through high-level representatives, he had "good communication with Hezbollah," who have agreed to a "full ceasefire."

Trump's announcement came hours after the Israeli military had warned residents in Beirut's southern Dahiyeh suburb to evacuate in preparation for an attack ordered by Netanyahu. The Lebanese Embassy in Washington revealed that Lebanese President Joseph Aoun had informed Hezbollah of the ongoing discussions to de-escalate tensions.

According to the embassy, Trump also contacted the Lebanese Ambassador to the United States, Nada Maouad, informing her that Netanyahu had approved a proposed deal. However, reports indicated that Israeli airstrikes were still occurring in parts of southern Lebanon. Trump also mentioned that discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran were ongoing and progressing rapidly.
