Trump, Hegseth deny concerns of poor conditions, low morale reported aboard USS Abraham Lincoln

President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth have publicly refuted claims of poor conditions and low morale affecting sailors aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier. Reports had surfaced suggesting distressed service members attempted to jump overboard due to the alleged hardships during an extended deployment.

Trump stated the over 260-day deployment was "not nearly long enough" and that the ship was being replaced. Meanwhile, Hegseth took to social media, labeling outlets reporting on the matter as "fake, America-hating news." He asserted that the sailors are proud and embody "resilience and excellence."

However, Senator Richard Blumenthal has called for a formal inquiry into the sailors' complaints. In a letter to Hegseth and Acting US Navy Secretary Hung Cao, Blumenthal cited reports of water contamination, plumbing issues, and shortages of basic supplies. He demanded answers regarding the measures being taken to support the crew and the reasons for the deployment's extension beyond the scheduled seven months.

Acting Navy Secretary Cao also denied the reports, stating that the USS Abraham Lincoln and its crew are returning home as part of a planned rotation. He acknowledged the difficulties of deployment but affirmed that sailor safety is the Navy's top priority. Cao claimed the allegations were dishonest and diverted focus from external threats. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) similarly denied the reports.
