Trump holds off on new strikes against Iran amid emerging 'deal'

President Donald Trump declared that U.S. forces will hold back from further strikes on Iran, stating that Middle East allies have agreed on the framework for a deal to end the five-month conflict. Trump announced on Truth Social that the emerging agreement would ensure the "Immediate, Complete, and Total OPENING OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT, and an end to Iran's nuclear threat." He added that he agreed to cancel the planned attack for the "future benefit of the WORLD and, likewise, the survival of a successful and prosperous Iran," contingent on the ability to rapidly finalize the deal. Israel has reportedly agreed to join the U.S. in this effort to reach an agreement with Iran. Prior to this announcement, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman spoke with Trump, voicing concerns about a potential U.S. escalation. The Saudis are worried that Iran might retaliate by targeting the kingdom's energy infrastructure and other Gulf nations. The Crown Prince sought clarification from Trump regarding any new actions being considered against Iran. A White House official confirmed the leaders' conversation but provided no further details. Kuwait reported responding to new drone attacks from Iran, while a tanker was struck in the strategic waterway. Earlier, Trump had threatened significant strikes on Iran, emphasizing the U.S. desire to "win" and inflict heavy damage until Iran "couldn't take it anymore." The State Department had also issued security alerts for Americans in ten regional countries due to escalating tensions.
