Trump honours teen lifeguard who rescued Indian American boy

President Donald Trump recognized a young hero at the White House on Monday, honoring 16-year-old lifeguard Ryder Williams for his courageous rescue of a 10-year-old boy. Nathaniel Rai was swept into the ocean by a powerful wave at Seabright State Beach in Santa Cruz on July 25, but Williams, who was on duty, acted swiftly to save him.

Trump met with Williams, Rai, and their families in the Oval Office, praising Williams' bravery. "What you did was incredible, and everybody saw it," Trump told the teenager, calling him an inspiration to young Americans. The rescue, captured on video, quickly went viral, drawing the President's attention.

Williams, who aspires to be a firefighter, credited his training for his ability to handle the dangerous situation. "In those dangerous moments that we have, we always try to fall back on our training," he told reporters. He also urged others to be helpful: "I hope that everybody can take away from this and try to help more people. Try to look out for everybody around you and just try to help everybody out as much as you can."

Nathaniel Rai's father, Sumit Rai, expressed profound gratitude to Williams for saving his son's life. "I was beyond grateful' for the rescue," he stated. President Trump also used the occasion to highlight the often-underappreciated role of lifeguards, suggesting they may not always receive the recognition they deserve.
