Four Omani teachers win prestigious GLOBE International Environmental award

Four teachers from Oman have achieved international recognition by winning the GLOBE International Environmental Competition. The competition, held for the first time in conjunction with the FIFA World Cup, honored their project for monitoring daily environmental data at football stadiums.

The winning teachers, Fakhriyah Saud Al Balushi, Hidayah Sulaiman Al Farsi, Yusra Humaid Al Dhawi, and Ali Rashid Al Jafili, executed a project that involved measuring air temperature, land surface temperature, and land cover. They consistently uploaded this data to the GLOBE Programme's global platform throughout the competition.

This success continues the Ministry of Education's achievements in environmental education. It reflects the ministry's dedication to fostering a research culture and empowering educators and students to participate in international scientific programs. Such initiatives aim to cultivate a generation aware of environmental issues and sustainable development.

The GLOBE Programme, launched in 1995 with support from NASA and international partners, involves 127 countries. It aims to enhance environmental awareness through hands-on field observations, engaging students and teachers in collecting scientific data. Oman joined the program in 2009, with the Ministry of Education overseeing its implementation, making it a key initiative for inquiry-based education in Omani schools.
