Trump hosts teen lifeguard who saved 10-year-old boy from rough waves

U.S. President Donald Trump welcomed 16-year-old lifeguard Ryder Williams to the White House, fulfilling a promise to honor the teenager for his heroic rescue of a 10-year-old boy from dangerous ocean waves.

The White House released footage of the meeting on Monday, showing Trump commending Williams for his actions. "You brought tremendous grace and experience… it’s so amazing to see this happen," Trump told the young lifeguard.

Trump had previously pledged to invite Williams and the boy he saved to Washington after video of the dramatic rescue went viral in July. At the time, Trump stated, "We’re going to bring this heroic young man, and his family, into the White House with, perhaps, the boy he saved, to give him a High Civilian Honor. Very brave, he deserves it!"

The rescue occurred at Seabright State Beach near Santa Cruz, California, where powerful waves swept the boy further into the ocean. Video captured Williams repeatedly diving through crashing waves to reach the struggling child, with assistance from another lifeguard and beachgoers, ultimately bringing the boy safely ashore.

Williams' mother had previously described her son as simply doing the job he loved. The White House meeting marks a significant recognition of the teenager's bravery, which garnered widespread attention.
