He revealed that he had previously called off military strikes at the urging of allies in the Persian Gulf, who desired to give Iran another opportunity. "They were called from many countries and all wanted Iran to be given another chance. This is their last chance," Trump told reporters. Trump indicated that talks would conclude swiftly, regardless of the outcome. He also suggested that the Strait of Hormuz could be fully reopened by Tuesday as part of a "first phase" agreement. "We are talking today about opening the strait tomorrow and making it completely passable, and when we solve that, we will talk about Iran's nuclear capabilities," Trump stated, emphasizing that Iran would not be permitted to charge passage fees through the strait.
