Trump mourns Dolly Parton, orders US flags lowered

Country music legend Dolly Parton has passed away at the age of 80, prompting a national tribute from United States President Donald Trump. Trump announced on his Truth Social account that he has ordered American flags across the country to be lowered for one week, beginning Tuesday evening, in honor of the iconic entertainer.

"Very sad to report that Dolly Parton, one of the greatest Country singers, and far beyond, EVER, has just passed away. This is a true loss for millions of people," Trump wrote. He added, "There has never been anyone like her, and never will. In her honor, I am lowering the American flag throughout the United States for a one week period beginning tonight at 6:00PM. Rest in Peace, Dolly! The World loves you."

Parton, who rose from humble beginnings in Tennessee, became one of country music's most celebrated singer-songwriters. Her career, spanning more than six decades, saw her sell over 100 million records globally. She was widely known as the "Queen of Country" for her numerous hits, including "Jolene," "9 to 5," and "I Will Always Love You."

Beyond her music career, Parton was also an accomplished actor, appearing in films such as "9 to 5," "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas," "Steel Magnolias," and "Joyful Noise." She wrote more than 3,000 songs and received 11 Grammy Awards. Parton also built a significant business empire, including television specials, food products, and the Dollywood theme park. Her philanthropy, particularly through the Dollywood Foundation's Imagination Library promoting childhood literacy, was also a significant part of her legacy.

Parton's death was announced by her nephew, Bryan Seaver, on Instagram. "I have imagined the heaviness of this moment but haven’t truly felt it until now. It is an honour, an honour that is mixed with absolute pride and great sadness," Seaver stated.
