Trump Names Will Scharf as Next White House Counsel

President Trump has named Will Scharf, the current White House Staff Secretary, as his next White House Counsel. Scharf, who manages the president's flow of information, paperwork, and executive orders, is set to assume his new role on September 1, succeeding David Warrington, who is transitioning to the private sector. Trump announced the appointment on his social media platform, Truth Social.

In his current capacity, Scharf is notably visible as the aide who presents executive orders to the president for signing and provides explanations. He also chairs the National Capital Planning Commission, involved in projects like the president's proposed triumphal arch. Trump described Scharf as "Tough, Strong, and Smart!" adding, "He also loves our Country, and respects the Law." The president expressed confidence that Scharf "will do a great job as White House Counsel."

Scharf, 40, is a graduate of Princeton University and Harvard University Law School. He previously served as an assistant U.S. attorney in Missouri from 2020 to 2022, working in a unit that prosecuted violent crimes. The White House Counsel serves as the chief legal advisor to the president and the White House staff.

This appointment occurs shortly before the midterm elections, a period that could see Democrats regain control of either or both chambers of Congress. Following the Democratic takeover of the House in 2019, President Trump and his administration faced numerous subpoenas and investigations, leading to his first impeachment. The announcement of Scharf's appointment follows closely on the heels of the Senate confirming Todd Blanche, Trump's former personal defense attorney, as the U.S. Attorney General.
