Trump picks ex-Oklahoma cop Lance Rogan to lead ICE immigration agency

Donald Trump has chosen Lance Rogan, a former Oklahoma police officer with over 29 years of law enforcement experience, to lead the federal immigration agency ICE. Trump announced the selection on his Truth Social platform, highlighting Rogan's "decades of experience in jailing the worst criminals." Rogan, currently an adviser to the Secretary of Homeland Security, will succeed Todd Lyons. Lyons had served as acting ICE director since March 2025 and resigned in May 2026. The agency has faced significant criticism in the U.S. for its arrests and deportations of undocumented immigrants. Senate confirmation is theoretically required for Rogan's appointment. However, since 2017, all ICE directors have served in an acting capacity without formal Senate approval. "It has been 11 years since the Department of Homeland Security had a Senate-confirmed ICE Director," noted Secretary Markwayne Mullin, urging the Senate to confirm Rogan promptly. Since returning to the White House, Trump has made combating illegal immigration a central goal.
