Trump posts map showing U.S. flag covering Mexico, the Caribbean and Canada

Donald Trump posted a map on Truth Social in which the red and white stripes of the U.S. flag stretch across Mexico, the Caribbean, Canada, Greenland and Iceland.

The U.S. president offered no comment with the image. The map appeared hours after he suggested on the same platform that the U.S. state of New Mexico should be renamed “New America,” in line with his claim that the Gulf of Mexico should be called the “Gulf of America.”

Trump often shares memes and images produced by supporters or by artificial intelligence on Truth Social. The origin of this map was not clear.

The post also came days after Trump signed an executive order seeking to rename Lake Ontario, which borders the United States and Canada, as “Lake America.” The article says Trump has made expansionist ambitions involving Greenland and even Canada clear during his second term, and has not ruled out military intervention to take Cuba.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum did not explicitly mention the map in a message on X. She nevertheless stressed that Mexican territory “is not and will not be a colony or protectorate of any foreign country.”
