Trump praises Flávio Bolsonaro amid new U.S. tariffs on Brazilian goods

The praise comes amidst new U.S. tariffs on Brazilian products. The tariffs, based on Section 301 of the U.S. Trade Act of 1974, are a response to what the U.S. deems unfair foreign trade practices. Following the announcement, Brazilian political opponents of the Bolsonaros linked the tariffs to Flávio Bolsonaro's visit to the White House, coining the term "Tariflávio."

Conversely, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva criticized the tariffs and blamed the Bolsonaro family. "The Bolsonaro children manage to be worse than him. They are traitors," Lula stated. The political fallout highlights the ongoing tensions between the U.S. and Brazil, particularly concerning trade policies and the designation of criminal factions as terrorist organizations.
