Trump proposes rebranding ICE to 'NICE' to counter negative perception

Former US President Donald Trump has proposed a rebranding of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency, suggesting it be renamed "NICE." Trump floated the idea on his Truth Social platform, framing it as a public poll to help reshape perceptions of the agency amidst contentious debates over his administration's immigration policies.

Trump articulated that adding an "N" for "National" to ICE would create a "more prestigious name." He argued that the "Fake News Media" has "abused" ICE, describing the agents as "Great Patriots" working in a "hostile environment." He believes renaming the agency would "totally discombobulate" journalists and alter public perception, stating they "won't be able to handle it, they will go totally crazy!"

For them to say, 'We went to a NICE Facility today,' as opposed to 'ICE' or, 'NICE Agents have deported a Violent Drug Dealer,' they won't be able to handle it, they will go totally crazy!

While Trump claimed the idea is widely loved, he noted that he was informed by former Trump administration official Tom Homan that the agents themselves might not be as enthusiastic about the change. The proposal surfaces amid heightened political discourse on immigration enforcement and border security in the United States. Recent weeks have seen clashes between protesters and law enforcement outside the Delaney Hall migrant detention facility in Newark, with some arrests made, including individuals linked to the progressive nonprofit Sunrise Movement, which advocates for the abolition of ICE.
