Trump Reports 'Very Good Conversation' with New British Prime Minister Burnham

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he held a "very good conversation" with the newly appointed British Prime Minister Andy Burnham. Trump stated that he anticipates meeting Burnham in the near future.

Burnham officially became Britain's seventh prime minister in a decade on Monday. He pledged to reform the country's political landscape, introduce a new economic model, and revitalize a nation weary of frequent leadership changes. Trump's post on Truth Social detailed that their discussion covered topics including North Sea oil, trade relations, military alliances, and the demining of the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump characterized the call as "interesting" and "very well." He mentioned plans for a future meeting to discuss matters of mutual interest, although no specific date was provided. This follows Trump's earlier critical remarks about Burnham, whom he described as "extremely liberal" and potentially opposed to increased oil drilling in the North Sea.

We discussed North Sea Oil, Trade, the Military Alliance, Demining of the Hormuz Strait, and many other topics. The call was interesting, and went very well.

The conversation also touched upon security commitments. Burnham assured Trump that London remains dedicated to defense and security and will support the safe reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. The waterway has been effectively blocked since the onset of the war, leading to increased energy prices.

Relations between Trump and his predecessor, former British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, had previously cooled over Britain's initial reluctance to allow the U.S. to use British bases for strikes against Iran. Starmer later granted permission for such use.
