Trump’s big plan leaked: A new era for the Middle East

Donald Trump’s administration is reportedly working on what the U.S. president has described privately as “something much bigger” for the Middle East after the war with Iran. The strategy remains in its early drafting stage, but officials say it could guide U.S. policy during the final two years of Trump’s term.

According to Axios, which cited U.S. officials and people familiar with the discussions, the plan centers on containing Iran’s regional influence and normalizing Israel’s relations with neighboring countries. Senior political officials and several government agencies are working on the project, while Trump has held two meetings with top advisers in recent weeks to consider different options.

The emerging strategy reportedly has three main priorities. The first is a regional structure made up of U.S. allies, with Washington potentially serving as its guarantor. The second is to secure measures aimed at ending the wider crisis after the war in Gaza. Those measures could include implementing the next phase of Trump’s Gaza ceasefire plan, reaching a security agreement between Israel and Syria, and enforcing the existing agreement between Israel and Lebanon.

The third priority is expanding the Abraham Accords. A possible normalization agreement between Saudi Arabia and Israel is described as one of Washington’s important goals. The administration is also closely watching Israel’s parliamentary elections on Oct. 27 and expects the government formed afterward to cooperate with the U.S. on the postwar strategy. U.S. officials nevertheless said Trump would try to implement the plan regardless of the election result. The White House did not comment on the report.
