Trump's 'Patriot Passport': When a president inserts himself into the American travel document

In a move that blends national commemoration with personal branding, former President Donald Trump has unveiled a special edition "Patriot Passport." Revealed on his Truth Social platform, the design features Trump's stern portrait placed over the original text of the Declaration of Independence, complete with his signature. The adjacent page showcases John Trumbull's iconic painting of the Founding Fathers signing the historic document.

This "Patriot Passport" is being released as part of the "America250" celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of American independence. Approximately 25,000 to 30,000 copies will be available to applicants at the Washington D.C. passport office starting around July 4. State Department officials confirmed that these uniquely designed passports, which will feature custom artwork and illustrations while maintaining high security standards, will be available from July 6, 2026.
