Trump's Peace Board reportedly issues first Gaza contract for Moroccan troop facility

Donald Trump's Peace Board has reportedly issued its first construction contract for Gaza, planning to build a basic military outpost capable of housing 150 Moroccan troops. The project, cited by The Guardian based on a source familiar with the plan, would be constructed by Arkel International, a company from Louisiana that has previously worked with the U.S. government in Iraq.

The proposed site for the 100 by 120-meter facility is approximately 1.6 kilometers from the Israeli border, within territory under direct Israeli military control. It would accommodate a rotating contingent of Moroccan soldiers. The outpost is intended to include features such as tents, cots, chemical toilets, hand-washing stations, vehicle positions, and a defensive berm, described as suitable for short-term deployments.

This initiative is reportedly linked to the International Stabilization Force (ISF), a U.N. resolution-backed entity intended to aid in implementing security and governance agreements for Gaza. Morocco has committed to providing a contingent, though the legal framework and deployment timeline for the force are still undefined. A Peace Board official confirmed to The Guardian that several contracts are in the final preparation stages, though none are yet formalized.

The contract marks a departure from the Peace Board's earlier plans, which had suggested a focus on the reconstruction of the Palestinian territory. Previous contractual considerations had envisioned the 150-person post as the initial phase of a larger military base for up to 5,000 personnel. The Peace Board, established in January under Trump's direction and including figures like Jared Kushner, oversees Gaza's reconstruction and administration.
