Trump Says Ships Laden with Oil Are Starting to Exit Hormuz

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Monday that ships, including many laden with oil, are beginning to transit the Strait of Hormuz. This development comes a day after Trump declared a pact with Iran to end the conflict and reopen the crucial waterway.

In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump stated that vessels are navigating the "south route," which he described as "totally safe and in perfect condition." He also noted the existence of "other transit routes." The message was shared as Trump was en route to the G7 summit in Évian, France, where the Iran conflict has been a prominent topic.

Trump had previously announced on Sunday, his 80th birthday, the agreement with Tehran. He wrote, "The deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to all! I hereby fully authorize the toll-free opening of the Strait of Hormuz and simultaneously authorize the immediate lifting of the United States naval blockade. Ships of the world, start your engines! Let the oil flow!" He did not provide further details about the agreement at that time.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif confirmed that Pakistan, which acted as a mediator, will preside over the ratification ceremony in Geneva, Switzerland, on Friday. Iran also stated that the memorandum of understanding includes the release of blocked Iranian assets, the lifting of all sanctions against the Islamic Republic, and guarantees for Tehran's sovereignty over Hormuz.
