US President Donald Trump said American forces were striking Iranian targets near the Strait of Hormuz, describing the operation as “large and powerful” and warning Tehran not to retaliate.

Trump said the strikes responded to what he called Iran’s “failed attempt” to place sea mines in the strait. He also pointed to an Iranian missile attack on a US base in Jordan, claiming Iran launched eight missiles and that they were all intercepted.

Earlier on Tuesday, US Central Command said American forces had begun striking targets belonging to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The command said the action followed attempted IRGC attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and on US service members deployed in the region.
