U.S. President Donald Trump has signed a deal with Iran to end the Middle East war, an agreement that is now in effect, according to a U.S. official. The signing reportedly occurred during a dinner with French President Macron following a G7 summit.

An official clarified that Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian signed the agreement after an initial digital signing on Sunday by Vice President JD Vance and Iran's chief negotiator Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, with Trump as a witness.

Iran's state media, citing foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei, reported that the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding has been officially signed by both presidents. Baghaei stated, "The text of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding was finalized with the signatures of the presidents, now it is time to test the implementation of the agreement."

However, Iran's chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, characterized the deal as a "failure" for the United States. He also announced that Tehran will begin charging ships crossing the Strait of Hormuz after a 60-day fee-free period stipulated in the memorandum. Ghalibaf asserted, "The Strait of Hormuz will not return to pre-war conditions... Iran has the right to sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz and of course we will receive a fee for services."

President Trump also reiterated his view that it is "unfair" if Iran is not allowed to keep some ballistic missiles.
