Trump suggests renaming Pacific or Atlantic Ocean 'America Ocean'

President Donald Trump has floated the idea of renaming either the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean to 'America Ocean,' following his executive order to rename Lake Ontario as 'Lake America.' The president made the remarks during an event in the Oval Office.

Now we just need an ocean. Maybe we have to rename the Atlantic and/or the Pacific. Maybe we will change.

Trump recalled previous renaming actions, including changing the Gulf of Mexico to the 'Gulf of America' via an executive order on January 20, 2025. "So, if you think about it, we have a gulf and we have a lake," he explained, suggesting his ambition to extend this naming convention to one of the major oceans bordering the United States.

It is important to note that these executive orders for name changes apply only to U.S. federal records and documents, having no official bearing outside of the United States' jurisdiction. The renaming of Lake Ontario comes amid a significant trade dispute between the U.S. and Canada.
