Trump Threatens 10-Year Prison Sentence for Damaging Lincoln Memorial Pool

President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning, threatening jail time for anyone who damages the Lincoln Memorial's Reflecting Pool, one of his administration's renovation projects. He invoked a 10-year prison sentence for the destruction or attempted destruction of such monuments.

The pool, recently repainted in a "American flag blue" color, has already encountered problems. The new coating began to peel shortly after completion, and algae has since turned the water a murky green. Trump attributed the issues to vandalism by "sick, disturbed" individuals, although he provided no evidence for this claim.

"Of all the MANY statues and fountains we have rebuilt, renovated, cleaned, and repaired, the only one that has been vandalized is the reflecting pool," Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social. He added, "Remember there is a 10 year prison sentence for the destruction, or even attempted destruction, of these types of things, which will be fully enforced!"

Workers are attempting to address the algae problem and restore the pool's blue color before July 4th celebrations. The National Park Service indicated that five people were arrested for "vandalism," and five others received citations. Trump acknowledged that the pool would need to be emptied again to repair minor damage to the lining, promising a swift resolution.
