Trump Threatens to Declare Strait of Hormuz U.S. Territory

U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning, threatening to declare the Strait of Hormuz as 'American territory' as part of his administration's strategy to pressure Iran. The announcement came during a speech at a police academy in Long Island, New York.

Trump stated, "After we finish defeating Iran, which is experiencing a crushing defeat, I will soon declare the Strait of Hormuz as American territory." He further asserted, "Basically, that's how it is. We control the blockade. No ship can pass unless we allow it."

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical chokepoint for global trade, with approximately one-fifth of the world's oil supply typically passing through it. This declaration, if enacted, would significantly escalate tensions and potentially disrupt international maritime commerce.

The statement follows a period of stalled peace talks between the U.S. and Iran. Trump has repeatedly claimed that Tehran is 'destroyed,' while Iran has maintained its resistance. In response to Trump's threat, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi took to X (formerly Twitter), stating that Tehran would not be intimidated by U.S. threats or displays of power.
