President Trump has threatened to rename Lake Ontario "Lake America" as a trade war with Canada intensifies. Trump announced the consideration on social media, stating the U.S. would "not be doing much business with Ontario any longer."

The United States is giving serious consideration to changing the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America.

The move comes after the U.S. imposed 50% tariffs on hundreds of Canadian goods, following a failure to reach a trade agreement. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney vowed to implement retaliatory tariffs against the U.S. Trump also announced a 50% tariff on all Canadian automotive and steel imports starting in January, asserting that "Canada has been ripping off the United States of America for years."
