Trump Threatens 'Very Strong' Strike on Iran, Jeopardizing Ceasefire

United States President Donald Trump declared on Tuesday that the U.S. would launch "very strong" strikes against Iran, signaling a potential end to the fragile ceasefire that has been in place since April. The announcement has cast a shadow over the ongoing de-escalation efforts between the two nations.

Trump made the declaration via his social media platform, Truth Social, stating, "America will be hitting Iran very hard tonight." He further elaborated on his intentions, suggesting that in the near future, the U.S. would "take over" Iran's oil export terminals, including Kharg Island, and gain "complete control" over their oil and markets. He drew a parallel to U.S. actions in Venezuela, which he described as yielding "great results" for both Venezuela and the United States.

This aggressive stance comes after the U.S. Central Command conducted strikes against Iran on two consecutive days, June 9 and 10. These retaliatory actions were initiated after a U.S. military Apache helicopter patrolling near the Strait of Hormuz was reportedly shot down by an Iranian drone. In response to the U.S. strikes, the Iranian military's Central Military Headquarters announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz to all vessel traffic, effective immediately.

The ceasefire, which began on April 7, now faces significant challenges. The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement prior to Trump's announcement, asserting that the "ceasefire agreement has become practically meaningless." The escalating military actions and rhetoric have heightened concerns about a broader conflict in the region.
