Trump to cut Medicaid funding for transgender minors' treatments

The U.S. administration will cease financial support for gender-affirming surgeries and hormone treatments for minors through Medicaid, President Donald Trump announced.

In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump declared, "We will not pay to have our innocent children undergo barbaric operations and treatments that result in unimaginable and irreversible harm to their young bodies."

Trump has reportedly instructed Mehmet Oz, the administrator of Medicaid, to implement the change. Oz, a former host of "The Dr. Oz Show," was appointed to his current role by the Trump administration.

The new regulations are scheduled to take effect on October 13. According to news agency AP, the decision has already prompted criticism from organizations such as GLBTQ Legal Advocates and Defenders and the Human Rights Campaign.

"The Trump administration is terrorizing trans youth and their families with these kinds of measures, and it must stop," said Kelley Robinson, president of the Human Rights Campaign, in a statement obtained by AP. The Trump administration has enacted several policies affecting transgender individuals during its term.
