Trump unveils new US passport with picture of himself

President Donald Trump has revealed a rendering of a new, limited-edition U.S. passport designed to mark the country's 250th anniversary of independence. The passport prominently features a stern-faced likeness of Trump himself, accompanied by his signature and excerpts from the Declaration of Independence.

Trump shared the mock-up on his Truth Social platform, captioning it, "The U.S.A.'s New Passport, which says, 'Welcome, but be good!'" The image depicts Trump leaning over his desk, with the Declaration of Independence text in the background. The opposite page showcases a painting of the 1776 signing ceremony, alongside the inscription "United States of America 250."

The White House also shared the passport rendering, referring to it as the "PATRIOT Passport." The State Department, which had previously announced the availability of a commemorative passport with "custom artwork" starting July 6, has not yet commented on the specific design. An official had previously indicated that these Trump-themed passports would be available by appointment in Washington while supplies last.

This move aligns with Trump's broader efforts to imprint his personal brand onto government institutions. Examples include banners bearing his image outside federal buildings and the Treasury Department's plan to feature his signature on the one-dollar bill. Trump's name was also controversially added to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, though a court later ordered its removal. If issued, he would be the first sitting U.S. president to be depicted in Americans' official travel documents.
