Trump Weighs 'Massive Attack' on Iran After Two Weeks of Consecutive Strikes

The conflict between the United States and Iran has intensified, marked by relentless daily strikes from both sides. The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the conclusion of its 13th consecutive day of strikes on Friday morning, targeting Iranian military centers, drone storage, communication networks, and coastal surveillance sites. These attacks, which included strikes on cities like Khorramabad and Ahvaz, resulted in the deaths of at least four Iranians.

CENTCOM stated its objective remains to diminish the Iranian threat to civilian and commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. In response, Iran has retaliated by striking U.S. bases in Bahrain, including the Sheikh Isa Air Base and the Al-Azraq Air Base. The tit-for-tat escalation has significantly impacted global oil prices, pushing crude oil to over $100 a barrel.

President Donald Trump has indicated a willingness to escalate further, stating he is considering a "massive attack" on Iran, which he described would be "bigger than ever before." Trump asserted that Iran has "not received enough pain yet." This aggressive stance comes despite previous reports of a ceasefire proposal presented by Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi, who visited Iran to discuss the matter with President Masoud Pezeshkian and other officials.

Iranian officials, including Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, have vowed to continue retaliating against U.S. interests and allies in proportion to the U.S. attacks. The exchange of strikes began in early July, initially focusing on Iranian military facilities near ports. However, the conflict has broadened to include infrastructure like railroads, airports, and bridges. Iran has also targeted U.S. military assets in the Middle East, resulting in the deaths of American service members. The renewed hostilities and the effective blockade of the Strait of Hormuz have led to a sharp increase in oil prices, reversing a downward trend seen after a previous ceasefire in April.
