Tsai Ing-wen to lead DPP Taitung campaign; Liu Chao-hao named secretary-general

Former President Tsai Ing-wen has accepted a key role in the upcoming Taitung County magistrate election, agreeing to serve as the chief convenor for the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate Chen Ying's campaign headquarters. This move signals a strong push for party unity as they aim to secure the leadership of Taitung County.

Joining Tsai Ing-wen in a significant campaign position is former legislator Liu Chao-hao, who will take on the role of secretary-general. Their appointments, announced during a visit to Chen Ying's campaign headquarters, underscore the DPP's commitment to consolidating support and presenting a united front. Chen Ying expressed her excitement about the unified effort, stating that "the power of unity is great" and that Taitung cannot afford further internal divisions.

The chief convenor role is not a job I am familiar with, but I very much hope to be able to help with this election in Taitung, and I hope to gather more unified strength to make Taitung's future better and allow more people to develop.

Liu Chao-hao's involvement comes after he recently announced he would not be running for county magistrate himself. He shared that he was encouraged by friends and felt the need to gather like-minded individuals to work towards a common goal. He highlighted Tsai Ing-wen's long-standing dedication to Taitung, recalling their extensive travels across the county during her terms as party chair and president. He expressed his full commitment to assisting with the campaign, aiming to improve Taitung together.
